The Aglaura Public Library is your library. The reason we exist is for you. This is your house - come home. Come read with us, learn with us, teach us, play with us, listen to us, talk to us, and be with us. Most of all, come have fun with us.

August 2006:

As you may know, the Aglaura Public Library was the victim of an act of arson on the evening of July 11. Unfortunately, the Library building itself was a complete loss, although around 15% of the assets were salvageable.

Soon afterwards, Phyllis Willingham, owner of The Hollow Needle antiques store, decided to shutter her business and turn the building over to the town for use as the new Library. Therefore, I am happy to report that the Aglaura Public Library does have a new home, and we are hard at work getting it into shape to open.

We hope to see you soon at the new Library. Thank you all for your kind notes of support.

Best Wishes,
Sarah Wyatt, Head Librarian

June 2006: Dear Friends of the Library,

It was a hard-fought and sometimes contentious battle, but we have succeeded in our struggle and have saved the Library. My deepest and most heartfelt thanks go out to all of you who helped, who wrote and signed and called and even sang your love for the "Bound pages, not web pages!" You have my undying gratitude.

The Aglaura Police have given me the go-ahead to publish some pictures of the missing masks. I have been asking around to the Library patrons who attended the exhibit and have found a couple people with some good mask pictures. They have given me permission to post them online. Please take a look once they're up and let me know if you have seen them.

Update: Here's a picture of the Mask of Knowledge at the exhibit. I hope to have more pictures up soon. You may click the image for a bigger version.

June 2006: Because of the interest in my new book, Sixth of Never, and because the book is only available at the Aglaura Public Library to see in person, I've made the decision to have the text put online for people to read. I must stress that this is no substitute to reading the book in person and this is only an option because many people from around the world are interested in reading the book. Those of you who read it, please remember to visit your local libraries this summer and check out a real, honest-to-goodness book!

You may read the text here: Sixth of Never.

May 2006: The phenomenal Artists of Aglaura exhibit ended last week. We were so lucky not only to have so many talented people in town, but that they were willing to share the fruits of their artistic endeavors with us! We had everything from my new book, Sixth of Never (and its associated masks), to a beautiful watercolor that Agatha Dobbs painted back in the 1950s.

A belated thank you to one and all both for exhibiting your lovely work and for coming to see the display. My personal apologies for not posting this sooner - we've been so busy trying to put all the displays away and get everything moved back to its normal place that I have been lax in expressing my appreciation.

Although we may be in an uproar, our normal library events have been happening as scheduled (and another hearty thank you to the Pine Barren Poets this month for putting up with the confusion!).

I am sure everyone can agree that events like the Artists of Aglaura exhibit serve as a strong reminder of the essential place that the Library holds in our town's past, present, and future.

April 2006: The Aglaura Public Library celebrates its annual "Artists of Aglaura" exhibit. The month-long display features the work of various local artists and writers, including author Wes Keeler and works by our own head librarian Sarah Wyatt. See this page for more details.

Renovations were recently completed at the Aglaura Public Library, adding over 3000 square feet of modernized space along with the latest library and research technologies and resources. The project, funded through a combination of federal, state, and local government sources along with considerable private investment, will serve as a valuable resource center for the Burlington County area for years to come.

The new Aglaura Public Library features the best of both old and new worlds with its extensive collection of antique books and manuscripts donated from the Wali Fard collection and their brand new Internet Access Center, where Burlington County residents can access the wonders of the internet for free.
